For its “outstanding contribution towards social, economic, and political transformation through non-violent and other Gandhian methods,” Gita Press, Gorakhpur, will receive the Gandhi Peace Prize for 2021, the Ministry of Culture said on Sunday.

Notably, over the past 100 years, Gita Press has done admirable work to advance societal and cultural changes among the populace.

As per sources, ₹1 crore in cash, a citation, a plaque, and a priceless traditional handicraft or item is included with the award. The organisations that have received awards in the past include Ramakrishna Mission and ISRO.

The jury, which was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reached this unanimous decision after careful consideration. Gita Press, Gorakhpur, will receive the 2021 award, the ministry announced in a statement, in recognition of its outstanding contribution to social, economic, and political transformation through non-violent and other Gandhian methods.

Taking it to Twitter, PM Modi congratulated Gita Press. He wrote, “I congratulate Gita Press, Gorakhpur on being conferred the Gandhi Peace Prize 2021. They have done commendable work over the last 100 years towards furthering social and cultural transformations among the people.”

The most widely read Hindu religious scriptures are published by Gita Press. The press is situated in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur. It was established in 1923 to advance the teachings of Sanatana Dharma by Jaya Dayal Goyanka and Ghanshyam Das Jalan. Who gets Gandhi Peace Prize?

The Gandhi Peace Prize was established by the Indian government in 1995 as a monument to the principles upheld by Mahatma Gandhi. Everyone is eligible for the prize, regardless of gender, country, ethnicity, language, caste, or faith.
