Ghaziabad Police have successfully arrested three individuals involved in a blackmailing ring using a gay dating app to target unsuspecting victims. The accused, identified as Rinku, Ajay, and Shubham, were apprehended, while two others remain at large. The case came to light after one victim reported being extorted following a meeting arranged through the app Grindr.
The victim, who connected with someone on Grindr, agreed to meet at a rented flat. During the encounter, the perpetrators secretly recorded intimate moments without consent. They then extorted a staggering Rs 1.40 lakh from the victim, threatening to release the footage unless their demands were met. The victim, after being coerced, approached the Ghaziabad police, leading to an investigation.
Assistant Police Commissioner Swatantra Kumar Singh confirmed that the police acted swiftly, carrying out a special operation based on intelligence gathered. This led to the arrests of the three accused near NDRF Road. Rinku, believed to be the mastermind, orchestrated the entire scheme, while Ajay played a key role in luring the victim. Authorities seized three mobile phones, Rs 10,000 in cash, and identity cards from Rinku. These items are currently under verification.
Gang’s deceptive tactics exposed
Initial investigations reveal that the gang had been operating for several weeks, using the rented flat as their base since January 2. They targeted multiple victims with similar tactics, exploiting their privacy for financial gain. The authorities continue to investigate and work on identifying the remaining suspects.
