The Delhi High Court is set to hear the defamation lawsuit filed by Gautam Gambhir, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member of Parliament, against the Hindi newspaper Punjab Kesari. Gambhir is suing for ₹2 crores in damages, saying that the newspaper published false pieces portraying him as a casteist and arrogant politician.The former cricketer and present politician listed Punjab Kesari, its editor Aditya Chopra, and correspondents Amit Kumar and Imran Khan as defendants in his complaint, which will be heard by Justice Chandra Dhari Singh. Gambhir claims that they exploited their journalistic freedom by repeatedly posting hostile and defamatory pieces against him.Gambhir has requested that the ₹2 crores in damages be donated to charitable organisations. Furthermore, he has sought a sincere apology from the defendants, which should be published in all Punjab Kesari newspapers, including digital versions.
