According to the ISRO chief the ignition did not happen in the nominal course. He also added that the vehicle is safe but more detail need to be looked into.

The launch that was supposed to take place at 8:00 am on Saturday was first delayed by 30 mins due to bad weather and later the launch was put on hold at 5 seconds.

Update (Oct 21, 8:56 AM): The Gaganyaan launch that was scheduled for 8:00 hrs on Saturday morning has been delayed due to bad weather conditions. Earlier ISRO had announced on ‘X’ that the rocket launch has been delayed by 30 mins and will take place at 8:30 am.
However, ISRO chief S Somnath has now announced that the Gaganyaan’s First Flight Test Vehicle Abort Mission-1 (TV-D1) is now on hold.

After the success of Chandrayaan-3, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is now all set to test launch its uncrewed rocket for mission Gaganyaan. The lunch will take place on Saturday, October 21 at 8:00 am from from Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota.
ISRO announced the countdown for the first unmanned flight test designated as the Test Vehicle Development Flight Mission-1 (TV-D1 Flight Test) launch with a post on 'X', stating, "The countdown leading to the launch at 08:00 Hrs. IST on October 21, 2023, has commenced."

The test is scheduled for October 21, 2023, at 0800 Hrs. IST from the First launchpad at SDSC-SHAR, Sriharikota.
It will be a short-duration mission and the visibility from the Launch View Gallery (LVG) will be limited.

Students from different schools and public spectators have already gathered at the launch area and are eagerly waiting for the uncrewed rocket to launch. The audience is excited and hopeful after the success of the Chandrayaan 3 mission that scripted history by making India the fifth country to land on the moon and also the first country to explore the southern pole of the celestial object.

The Gaganyaan project envisages a demonstration of human spaceflight capability by launching a crew of 3 members to an orbit of 400 km for a 3-day mission and bringing them back safely to earth, by landing in Indian sea waters. This program will make India the fourth nation to launch a manned spaceflight mission after the US, Russia, and China.
