G20 Summit which is happening under India’s Presidency at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi has signed significant deals and projects during the bilateral talks and session with the member countries on Day 1, Saturday. Notably, the members among the group have made some historic decisions.

Here are some key developments made on Day 1 of the G20 Summit:

African Union joins G20: African Union joined the G20 Summit and was made a full member of the Group of Twenty under India’s presidency of the G20.

G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration adopted: PM Modi made the announcement for the adoption of G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration. Notably, it is one of the significant victories for India’s presidency of the bloc that came amid increasing tensions and divergent views over the Ukraine conflict.

Launch of Global Biofuel Alliance: With a plea to take ethanol blending with petrol globally to 20%, PM Modi on Day 1 announced the launch of the Global Biofuel Alliance and urged G20 nations partners to join the initiative.

India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor: Among one of the biggest deals during G20, PM Modi unveiled plans for an ambitious India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. The project will connect India to Europe connected by the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Israel. Notably, this partnership will play a vital role in filling infrastructure gap in Global South countries.

G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation proposed: PM Modi during the proposal of the launch of G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation urged the top leaders to start working on a Green Credit Initiative.

Bilateral talks with British counterpart: PM Narendra Modi on Day 1 met the Prime Minister of United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. The talks were held to deepen trade linkages and boost investment.

Bilateral talks between PMs of India and Japan: PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida on the sidelines of the G20 Summit which will help in enhancing the connectivity, commerce and other sectors.  

Leaders of India and Italy hold talks: PM Modi held bilateral talks with his Italian counterpart Giorgia Meloni where they spoke about trade, commerce, defence, emerging technologies.

The Day 1 concluded with a ceremonial dinner for the G20 leaders hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Bharat Mandapam, the Summit venue. President Murmu and Prime Minister Modi welcomed the dignitaries.
