New Delhi: Swati Maliwal, former Chairperson of the Delhi Women Commission and Aam Aadmi Party MP, has leveled accusations against Vibhav Kumar, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's Personal Assistant (PA), of assaulting her. Despite the absence of a written complaint, Maliwal verbally reported the incident at a police station. However, she departed without formalizing her complaint, leaving the matter unresolved. Maliwal's insinuation, implicating Kejriwal in the alleged assault, has intensified scrutiny of the Aam Aadmi Party and its leader.

Vibhav Kumar: A trusted associate of Arvind Kejriwal

Vibhav Kumar, known for his close association with Kejriwal, has earned the trust of the Chief Minister. Initially a video editor working with Manish Sisodia, Kumar gradually became indispensable to Kejriwal, overseeing various aspects of his daily life, earning him the moniker "Kejriwal's Man Friday." His proximity to Kejriwal was evident during the latter's arrest, as Kumar was one of the select few permitted to meet him, alongside Kejriwal's wife, Sunita Kejriwal.

Vibhav Kumar's journey from video editor to Kejriwal's PA

Kumar's journey commenced in 2000 when he joined Arvind Kejriwal's team as a video editor for a magazine associated with India Against Corruption. With the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party, Kumar's involvement deepened, eventually leading to his appointment as Kejriwal's Personal Secretary.

Current investigations and legal wrangles

Presently, Vibhav Kumar faces scrutiny from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding money laundering allegations related to the Delhi liquor scam and purported irregularities within the Delhi Jal Board. In February, ED conducted raids at several locations associated with Kumar, as part of a broader investigation. Additionally, Kumar underwent interrogation by the ED last month concerning documents linked to the liquor scam probe.

Dismissal from position

Subsequently, the Vigilance Directorate terminated Kumar's services as Personal Secretary to the Delhi Chief Minister. Challenging this decision, Kumar filed an appeal before the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which, however, declined to halt the dismissal order, citing the need for further investigation. The dismissal traces back to a 2007 case where Kumar was accused of impeding government operations.

The allegations against Vibhav Kumar not only cast a shadow on his professional conduct but also raise questions about the integrity of the Aam Aadmi Party's inner circle. As investigations unfold, Kumar's journey from a trusted aide to a controversial figure underscores the complexities and challenges within political corridors.
