As India celebrates its 78th Independence Day on Thursday, several nations, including war-stricken Ukraine, have extended heartfelt congratulations to New Delhi. Ukraine, which continues its valiant struggle to defend its territories against Russian aggression, took to social media to convey its warm wishes and emphasise the importance of bilateral cooperation.

In a tweet, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry extended its best wishes to the people of India and expressed optimism for further strengthening ties between the two nations. "Best wishes to the people of the Republic of #India and our colleagues from @MEAIndia on the occasion of the 78th anniversary of Independence! We look forward to the further development of relations for the mutual benefit of our nations," the message read.

This diplomatic gesture from Ukraine comes as Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the war-torn country later this month. While the Ministry of External Affairs has yet to disclose specific details regarding the visit, it underscores the ongoing support and solidarity between the two nations.

In addition to Ukraine, the Maldives also conveyed warm greetings to India. President Mohamed Muizzu, previously seen as a pro-China figure, highlighted the historical roots and evolving relationship between the two countries. In a social media post, he stated, "On the occasion of India’s Independence Day, I extend heartfelt congratulations to President @rashtrapatibhvn, Prime Minister @narendramodi, and the people of India. Our enduring friendship, rooted in history, has evolved to foster prosperity and development in the Maldives and the region. As we look to the future, I am confident that our partnership will continue to strengthen, driving mutual prosperity and shared goals."

Meanwhile, back in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the iconic Red Fort in New Delhi. He reiterated India’s aspirations to become a developed nation by 2047, as the country approaches its 100th year of independence from British rule.
