From scorching to soaked! Delhi NCR finally receives showers, brings respite from heatwave

Heat is taking a toll on the populace across the nation, with Delhi's inhabitants particularly hesitant to venture out of their homes. However, a slight respite arrived late night in the Delhi-NCR region, courtesy of heavy rain and wind, causing a minor dip in temperatures. The weather department has delivered some relief news, forecasting light rain on Thursday, potentially alleviating the sweltering conditions. An anticipated temperature drop also looms for Thursday, with the Meteorological Department issuing an orange alert for rain. Yet, post-Thursday, the heat may reclaim its oppressive grip.

Delhi recorded maximum temperature 

On June 5, Delhi experienced a maximum temperature four degrees above normal, subjecting residents to a heatwave and stifling heat. The day dawned humid, albeit with light clouds. Dust storms accompanied by brisk winds swept through select areas. The Delhi Meteorological Department recorded a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 31 degrees Celsius.

Orange alert on Thursday

An orange alert has been issued for Thursday, with forecasts indicating partly cloudy skies and a potential evening dust storm. Wind speeds of 30 to 40 km per hour are anticipated, with light drizzles possible in the evening and night, potentially nudging the maximum temperature to 42 degrees Celsius, while the minimum may dip to 30 degrees Celsius.
Najafgarh witnessed temperatures exceeding 46 degrees Celsius on Thursday, compounding the heat-related woes. Furthermore, the capital's air quality remains in the poor category. However, the Meteorological Department holds promise for improved air quality post the onset of the rainy season.

Meanwhile, monsoon's arrival is imminent in Maharashtra, with Pune, Satara, Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Solapur, Sangli, Ratnagiri, and Osmanabad expected to welcome it by June 6. IMD predicts statewide monsoon coverage by June 10, offering respite from the scorching heat.
