Celebrating the 77th Independence Day, several political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress’ Rahul Gandhi and many more extended their wishes to the countrymen on this special occasion. The leaders took it to their social media and penned a heartfelt note for the Indians.

Political leaders extend wishes on Independence Day

Earlier this morning, PM Modi extended his greeting to the citizens of the country and paid homage to the freedom fighters through a tweet. He wrote, “Best wishes on Independence Day. We pay homage to our great freedom fighters and reaffirm our commitment to fulfilling their vision. Jai Hind!”

Even, Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared his thoughts on Independence Day on his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account. In a tweet in Hindi, Shah wrote, “I wish a very happy Independence Day to all my fellow countrymen. I bow to all the freedom fighters who got us independence.”

Further, he called on people across communities to contribute to the nation’s unity and prosperity in the ‘Amit Kaal’ (golden era).

Apart from the ruling party members, opposition leaders also took it to X to extend their wishes and paid tribute to the warriors behind the independence.

Bharat Mata is voice of every Indian: Rahul Gandhi on I-Day

Taking to social media platform X, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared a long note with the caption, “Bharat Mata is the voice of every Indian! Happy Independence Day to all the countrymen.”

In his note, Rahul Gandhi shared his experience of ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and said that he started the 145-day walk at the edge of the sea and reached the snow of Kashmir.

“Last year I spent a hundred and forty-five days walking across the land I call home. I started at the edge of the sea and walked through heat, dust and rain. Through forests, towns and hills, until I reached the soft snow of my beloved Kashmir,” he said.

Moreover, he mentioned the pain he faced while continuing his yatra and the motivation that helped him in continuing the yatra.

“Within a few days, the pain arrived. My old knee injury, one that hours of physiotherapy had banished, was back. A few days into the walk, my physio joined us, he came and gave me sage advice. The pain remained. And then I started to notice something. Every time I would think about stopping, every time I considered giving up, someone would come and gift me the energy to continue,” Rahul said.

“The Yatra progressed. But soon the numbers of people became so large, the pain so persistent that I started to observe and listen,” the Congress leader added.

Let’s remember our freedom fighters: Mamata Banerjee

Meanwhile, Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee stood up to celebrate the 77th Independence Day. Starting her tweet with a quote in the Bengali language, she wrote, “The chapters of our history are written in courage and resilience. As we hoist the tricolour, let’s remember the sacrifices of our freedom fighters and pledge to uphold the values they fought for.”

“Let their sacrifices inspire us to forge ahead with purpose and dedication. Let us rise beyond divisions, casting aside our differences, and stand united in our journey towards a brighter, better India,” Mamata added.

Notably, August 15 commemorates India’s freedom from the centuries-long rule of the British, achieved through the sacrifices of innumerable courageous individuals and the unwavering endeavours of its heroes.
