1. This is not the time for war: PM Modi at India-Austria joint presser

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Austria Tuesday evening after concluding an important visit to Russia. This is the first time in over 40 years that an Indian Prime Minister has visited Austria. Indira Gandhi vistied Austria, back in 1983. During a joint press conference in Vienna, Prime Minister Modi said that solutions cannot be found on the battlefield. He emphasized the importance of diplomacy and negotiations in solving global issues.

2. Assembly bypolls held in 13 constituencies across seven states

Amarwara in Madhya Pradesh saw the highest voter turnout at 78% in the Assembly bypolls conducted in 13 constituencies across seven states on Wednesday. In contrast, Badrinath in Uttarakhand experienced the lowest turnout, with only 47% of voters participating. There were isolated incidents of violence reported from both Uttarakhand and West Bengal. The Assembly by-elections took place in Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh.

Aaditya Thackeray, the leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT), called for "bulldozer justice" on Wednesday in the fatal Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, in which Rajesh Shah's son is the primary offender.  He wanted to know why Rajesh Shah's son, Mihir Shah,'s home was not being bulldozed as a punishment in this case. 

4. Divorced Muslim women can now seek maintenance, rules Supreme Court

Supreme Court said that Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code applies to all married women irrespective of their religion. This means Muslim women also have the right to seek maintenance from their husbands after divorce under this provision.

5. Afghan refugees in Pakistan receive one-year stay extension

Pakistan has announced that 1.45 million Afghan refugees legally residing in the country will be allowed to stay for another year. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's cabinet on Wednesday approved the extension. It applies to those holding Proof of Registration (PoR) cards, which had expired at the end of the previous month.

The White House believes that India's close relationship with Russia provides it with a unique ability to influence Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine. The statement from the White House has come after PM Modi emphasised to President Putin that the solution to the Ukraine conflict laid in dialogue and not on the battlefield.

7. Israeli army drops leaflets ordering citizens to evacuate Gaza City

The ongoing war between Israel and Palestine is now shaping up to take a darker turn. The Israeli army has ordered citizens of Gaza City to evacuate their homes as soon as possible by dropping thousands of leaflets on Wednesday. This move comes amid escalating ground battles and strikes targeting Hamas militants in the Palestinian territory’s main city.
