The opposition INDIA bloc seems on the brink of a sweeping victory over the ruling NDA in the latest by-elections. Out of the 13 contested seats, the INDIA won ten seats. The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Act has been drafted in Uttarakhand and a nine-member panel has been constituted to form the rules, procedures, and other matters related to its implementation. The UCC Act includes seven schedules and 392 sections, covering marriage, divorce, inheritance, and live-in relationships. It aims to end practices like polygamy, polyandry, halal, iddat, and talaq while ensuring property rights for both male and female children.

8. Israel allegedly drops banned white phosphorus bombs in southern Lebanon 

Lebanon's official National News Agency reported that recent attacks took place near the town of Kfar Kila. Israeli forces are conducting a "search operation" from their base in Metula, a town located on the northern side of the 1948 Israeli-occupied territories. The attacks have endangered civilian lives and caused significant fires in the region. Israel continues to use white phosphorus munitions in southern Lebanon, causing lasting damage and forcing villagers to flee.

9. Mukesh Ambani owes Rs 4381.32 crore to MMRDA, among 5 defaulters

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) owed Rs 5,818 crore to five defaulters, including Mukesh Ambani. An RTI query by activist Anil Galgali revealed that Mukesh Ambani alone owes Rs 4,381 crore to MMRDA. The other defaulters named are M/s Reliance, Naman Hotel, Ambani Foundation, INS, and Raghulila Builders. Notices were issued to these defaulters on September 12, 2017.
