The opposition INDIA bloc seems on the brink of a sweeping victory over the ruling NDA in the latest by-elections. Out of the 13 contested seats, the INDIA won ten seats. The BJP, still reeling from its failure to secure a majority in last month's Lok Sabha elections, managed to clinch only two assembly seats in the by-polls. Meanwhile, independent candidate Shankar Singh emerged victorious in one constituency.
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Mumbai, where he inaugurated and laid foundation stones for several development projects, he emphasized the major strides in job creation over the past 3-4 years. He took a veiled jibe at the opposition parties, saying those spreading 'fake narratives' are foes of development and employment.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah claimed they were put under house arrest on Kashmir Martyrs' Day. This allegedly aimed to prevent them from visiting Mazar-e-Shuhada. Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), shared a picture on social media platform X, showing the locked gate of her residence. In her post, she expressed her frustration with the authorities.
In one of the significant moves, the Ministry of Home Affairs has made amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act have expanded the powers of the Lieutenant Governor (LG), enhancing their authority in the region. The amendments have been made to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganizational Act, 2019.
The Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Act has been drafted in Uttarakhand and a nine-member panel has been constituted to form the rules, procedures, and other matters related to its implementation. The UCC Act includes seven schedules and 392 sections, covering marriage, divorce, inheritance, and live-in relationships. It aims to end practices like polygamy, polyandry, halal, iddat, and talaq while ensuring property rights for both male and female children.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) owed Rs 5,818 crore to five defaulters, including Mukesh Ambani. An RTI query by activist Anil Galgali revealed that Mukesh Ambani alone owes Rs 4,381 crore to MMRDA. The other defaulters named are M/s Reliance, Naman Hotel, Ambani Foundation, INS, and Raghulila Builders. Notices were issued to these defaulters on September 12, 2017.
