UP News: In a shocking case of human trafficking, a teenage girl from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, was lured by a woman under the pretext of a job opportunity and sold for ₹2 lakh. The accused, identified as Saroj, posed as a caring friend to the girl’s family but exploited their trust to orchestrate the crime. Pretending to be the girl’s aunt, Saroj took her to Haryana, where she was forced into a fake marriage and tasked with drugging her in-laws to rob them of their valuables.

False Promises of Employment

Saroj often visited the victim’s family at their small restaurant in Maheva, befriending them over time. She expressed concern for their struggles and convinced the family she could secure a job for their daughter. Saroj claimed the girl would be paid ₹3,000 for a simple task at a wedding and promised better opportunities afterward. On November 28, the woman took the girl under the guise of a job, but the family soon lost contact with her.

Unraveling the Trafficking Plot

After repeated failed attempts to contact their daughter, the family approached Saroj, only to be misled with excuses. Days later, they learned their daughter had been sold in Haryana. Upon visiting the location, the family discovered that Saroj had posed as the girl’s aunt and arranged her marriage, instructing her to drug the family and steal their jewelry and cash.

Police Rescue Operation

The victim’s family informed the police, who promptly registered a case. The girl was eventually rescued from Haryana, and her statement was recorded before a magistrate. Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhinav Tyagi confirmed that the accused, Saroj, and her husband Ram Ashish, have been questioned and further arrests are expected. The police are investigating the case and ensuring justice for the victim. SP Tyagi assured, “The culprits will face the law, and the truth behind the trafficking racket will be revealed.”
