1) Centre defends NEET-UG 2024 integrity, denies mass malpractice in affidavit to Supreme Court

The Union government on Wednesday filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court in response to petitions alleging irregularities in the NEET-UG medical entrance exam conducted on May 5. The affidavit denies any mass malpractice and provides insights from an IIT Madras report.

During a hearing on Monday, July 8, the Supreme Court instructed the Centre and National Testing Agency (NTA) to submit their responses regarding the extent of the alleged paper leak and measures to isolate wrongdoers from legitimate candidates.

The accused Mihir Shah and his friends drank 12 large pegs, or roughly 4 pegs apiece, prior to the car crash incident, according to excise officials citing the bar bill in one of the most recent developments in the Worli BMW hit-and-run case that claimed the life of a woman riding a two-wheeler. The officials emphasized that they could be inebriated for up to four hours due to the amount of alcohol they drank. The reports cited that accused Mihir Shah left the bar at around 1:30 am and the incident happened at around 5 am. Meanwhile, the state excise department has suspended the license of the Juhu bar owner who served alcohol to the accused, who was below 25.

The crew, alng with the passengers were rescued without any casualties on its way from Riyadh to Peshawar.
