Maharashtra News: Diwali, a festival celebrated with joy and fervor, turned tragic in Pune district as incidents involving firecrackers resulted in serious injuries and fatalities. On the eve of Diwali, a 35-year-old man named Soham Patel lost his life after being struck by a speeding car while bursting firecrackers on the roadside in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area. The incident occurred on November 30 and was captured on CCTV footage, which showed the devastating moment when the vehicle hit Patel, who was enjoying the festive atmosphere.

Fatal accident involving firecrackers

Witnesses reported that the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving Soham severely injured on the ground. Despite the immediate response from local authorities, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after the accident. As of now, the Ravet police have registered a case against the unidentified driver and are actively pursuing leads to apprehend him. However, more than 48 hours later, the suspect remains at large.

Children injured in firecracker mishap

In a separate incident that highlights the potential dangers of firecrackers, five children sustained injuries in Pune's Sinhgad area when the lid of a drain chamber exploded due to the impact of firecrackers they were igniting on top of it. Fortunately, the injuries were not life-threatening, but they serve as a reminder of the need for caution during festive celebrations.

Stabbing incident linked to firecrackers

Adding to the tragic events surrounding Diwali, another incident in Nagpur resulted in the death of 25-year-old Amol Waghmare. He was allegedly stabbed to death by a teenager following an argument over firecrackers on November 1. Police reports indicate that Waghmare was involved in a heated discussion when the teenager escalated the situation, attacking him with a knife and fatally wounding him.
