The much-anticipated Union Budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 is scheduled for February 1, 2025. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present her landmark eighth budget at 11:00 AM IST. As India faces global uncertainties, expectations for bold and transformative measures are high, with a focus on driving sustainable growth and economic progress.

Infrastructure development key to economic growth

In line with India's vision of becoming a $7 trillion economy by 2030, infrastructure development will be crucial. “Budget 2025 must prioritise rapid infrastructure development to enable the logistics and transportation sector to realise its full potential as a catalyst for economic progress and sustainable growth,” said Ketan Kulkarni, Managing Director of Gati Express and Supply Chain Limited.

The logistics sector, vital to India’s development, looks forward to enhanced last-mile connectivity and reforms to strengthen the ecosystem. Industry experts anticipate initiatives like increasing the collateral-free Mudra loan limit and setting up dedicated e-commerce export hubs to boost MSMEs, a backbone of India's economy.

AI and healthcare integration in focus

Artificial intelligence (AI) is another area of interest in Budget 2025. According to Masaharu Morita, Founder of NURA India, “The healthcare industry hopes the government will introduce policies to position India as a global hub for AI-enabled healthcare services.”

A higher budget allocation for R&D, particularly in diagnostics, telemedicine, and personalised healthcare, could bridge healthcare gaps and address emerging challenges. AI adoption and blockchain technology are expected to drive innovation and preventive care, ensuring alignment with global standards.

Sustainability through EV infrastructure

The logistics industry also seeks incentives for EV charging infrastructure to promote sustainable operations. By emphasising digital transformation and sustainability, Budget 2025 could foster a competitive, future-ready ecosystem.
