Emmanuel Macron, the President of France, has been invited as a chief guest to attend India's January 26 Republic Day celebrations in 2024.

According to the sources, India has also invited the US President Joe Biden but reportedly he will not be able to travel to India. However, there is no official update of this yet.

The two leaders, French president and PM Modi met in July during PM Modi's visit to France to attend the Bastille Day Parade. PM Modi participated in the Bastille Day celebrations as the Guest of Honour. Noteworthy here is that PM Modi invited French President Macron during his visit.

PM Modi quoted his trip as the ‘memorable’ one. Taking it to his X handle, PM Modi shared, “This France visit was a memorable one. It was made even more special because I got the opportunity to take part in the Bastille Day celebrations. Seeing the Indian contingent get a pride of place in the parade was wonderful. I am grateful to President @EmmanuelMacron and the French people for the exceptional warmth and hospitality. May 🇮🇳 🇫🇷 friendship continue to soar!”

PM Modi visited France to mark the 25th anniversary of India-France Strategic partnership.

A 241-member tri-service Indian armed forces contingent led by a military band also participated in the Parade and the Indian Army contingent was led by the Punjab Regiment, followed by a complement from the Rajputana Rifles Regiment.

The Indian military contingent marched during the Bastille Day Parade to the patriotic song "Sare Jahan Se Accha," while an IAF Rafale fighter squadron performed a flypast over the Champs-Elysees. During the parade, Indian Air Force Rafale Jets from the 101 Squadron based in Hashimara participated in a flypast.

Meanwhile, the French president also visit India in September to be the part of G20 Summit.

It is to be noted here that this is for the sixth time that a French president will be the chief guest at Republic Day celebrations.
