Dr Sandip Ghosh, Ex-Principal of Kolkatas RG Kar Medical College and Hospital (ANI)
The Kolkata Police have initiated a corruption investigation against Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. This move comes in the wake of the shocking rape and murder of a 31-year-old post-graduate trainee doctor, whose body was discovered on August 9 at the state-run medical facility.
The investigation into financial misconduct at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has gained momentum following a complaint lodged in June. The state police are examining allegations of financial irregularities that have cast a shadow over the institution's operations.
In response to the ongoing controversy, the West Bengal government has established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the financial discrepancies at the hospital. The SIT, led by Inspector General Pranab Kumar, includes Deputy Inspector General Syed Waquar Raza, CID DIG Soma Mitra Das, and Deputy Commissioner Indira Mukherjee of the Kolkata Police. This team is focused on investigating financial misconduct during Ghosh's tenure, which has been exacerbated by the recent crime.
Sandip Ghosh, who resigned from his position just two days after the tragic incident, has come under intense scrutiny. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has questioned him for nearly 53 hours over the past four days regarding his conduct and actions following the doctor's murder.
