Former minister and founder of Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan, Choudhary Lal Singh, officially joined the Congress party in New Delhi on Wednesday. Singh, a prominent political figure in Jammu and Kashmir, is reportedly gearing up to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Udhampur constituency.

Lal Singh, a former minister in the Jammu and Kashmir government, formalized his membership with the Congress in a ceremony attended by Pawan Kheda and other Congress leaders from Jammu and Kashmir. The move marks Singh's return to the Congress fold after his departure after the 2014 general elections, during which he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and subsequently served as a minister in the PDP-BJP coalition government.

BJP leader Prahlad Gunjal to join Congress

In a parallel development, Rajasthan BJP leader Prahlad Gunjal, who is close association with Vasundhara Raje, is set to align with the Congress party. Earlier, Gunjal had alleged serious allegations against Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Singh's return to the Congress fold has set the stage for an intriguing battle in the Udhampur Lok Sabha constituency. With Choudhary Lal Singh's formidable presence, the electoral landscape is poised for a riveting contest, particularly given his strong base in Kathua district and Congress's historical stronghold in Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts.
