Former Chennai Super Kings and Indian team cricketer Ambati Rayudu announced his decision to enter politics.

The wicketkeeper-batsman, who announced his retirement from cricket on May 30, was touring his home town of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. “I shall soon enter politics in Andhra Pradesh to serve the people. Before that, I have decided to visit different parts of the district to know the people’s pulse and understand their problems,” he told local reporters while visiting the Mutluru village of Vatticherukuru block, Guntur.

No 2024 Lok Sabha bid: Ambati Rayudu

Rayudu claims that his decision to enter politics was motivated by his desire ‘to understand the issues confronting the people at the grassroots level’. He denied that he was planning to contest the Andhra Pradesh Lok Sabha elections, which will happen on or before July 2024, from either Guntur or Machilipatnam parliamentary constituency.

“I shall come out with a concrete action plan on how to go about in politics and which platform I would choose,” Rayudu told reporters.

Rayudu met with schoolchildren at a government school in Phirangipuram and shared lunch with them. He listened to the problems faced by the students.

Speculation about Rayudu joining politics was rife after his recent posts about Andhra Pradesh chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

It is speculated that he might join Reddy’s YSR Congress Party, and contest elections on their ticket.
