Reasi terror attack: A civilian bus in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi became the target of a terror attack on Sunday evening, which resulted in nine fatalities and 33 injuries. According to NDTV, three foreign terrorists were involved in this heinous act. Unconfirmed reports suggest that two terrorists may still be hiding in the remote and densely forested areas of Reasi. After the incident a large-scale search operation was launched.

The terrorists reportedly utilized M4 carbines, American-made assault rifles widely used by militaries worldwide. These rifles, developed in the 1980s, have also found their way into the hands of Pakistani special forces and law enforcement units.

PM Modi condemns the attack

In the aftermath of the attack, condemnation poured in from various quarters. J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the incident, assuring that the perpetrators would face swift justice. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was inaugurated for a third consecutive term earlier that day, expressed his concern and directed authorities to closely monitor the situation. Home Minister Amit Shah and President Droupadi Murmu also condemned the attack, vowing severe repercussions for the culprits.

Political responses

The attack drew strong reactions from political leaders across the spectrum. Rahul Gandhi of the Congress party denounced the act as cowardly, emphasizing the precarious security situation in J&K. His sister, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, echoed similar sentiments, condemning terrorism as a violent assault on humanity.

Escalation of violence

The incident marks a big escalation in violence in the region, particularly in the relatively tranquil district of Reasi. Unlike its neighboring districts of Rajouri and Poonch, Reasi has previously seen minimal terrorist activities.
