Amid the escalating tensions between Delhi and Haryana over the shortage of water in the national capital, Delhi Water Minister Atishi said that she will step on the path of 'Satyagraha' and start an 'indefinite fast' from Friday. The move of indefinite fast from the Delhi minister has come after she requested Haryana for water supply.

Before starting the fast, Atishi said that despite every possible effort, the Haryana government is not providing full water to Delhi, which is resulting in 28 lakh people not getting water in the national capital.

According to the sources, the Delhi minister will first pay a visit to Rajghat in Delhi and then will start her fast. In the fast Atishi will be accompanied along with AAP leaders Sanjay Singh, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Sunita Kejriwal, wife of Arvind Kejriwal.

Reportedly, she will begin her indefinite hunger strike in south Delhi's Bhogal at noon to press on her demand for 100 million gallons of water per day from Haryana.

It is worth noting that the movement from the Delhi minister has come after she requested the rightful share of water to Haryana on Wednesday and then announced that she would go on an indefinite fast if the rightful share of water is not given to Delhi.

Water crisis in the national capital

Notably, for nearly a month now, Delhi has been suffering from a water shortage amidst intense heat waves. People are compelled to wait in line to get water from the tankers in various parts of the city. They have demanded an end to their troubles and expressed their unhappiness with the current state of affairs.

With the BJP and AAP at odds over the water problem, the political dispute has only gotten worse.

The Delhi administration has also come under fire from the Congress, which ran an alliance with the AAP in the Lok Sabha elections. Congress president in Delhi, Devender Yadav, has called the government's actions a "deceit" towards the people.
