Ulhasnagar (Thane): A viral video from Ulhasnagar's Khemani vegetable market has revealed a shameful act of poor food hygiene. In the video, a vegetable vendor was washing greens in filthy sewer water, shocking people and causing serious health concerns.
Khemani, in Ulhasnagar Camp-2, is famous for the unlawful vegetable market, where this horrible act was exposed. In the viral video, the vendor dips his veggies into the dirty gutter water and douses that water back onto the veggies in a bucket. This finding has shocked locals in terms of food safety, as these contaminated greens could unknowingly reach consumers' tables putting them in terrible health risks.
The video has sparked outrage on social media, with citizens condemning the filthy conditions of the market. Many wondered about the quality of food they consume day in and day out and called on the authorities to take immediate action. Green vegetables are nutritious but such incidents make one think twice before eating any food.
Local residents and political activists have written to the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) requesting urgent action against both the vendor and stricter hygiene practices in the market. In a statement to Marathi sites, UMC health officer Manish Hiwale confirmed the incident and disclosed that the authorities have been directed to trace the man involved. "We have asked our authorities to try tracing the vendor concerned. As soon as we find him, we will take his statement and investigate this properly," stated Hiwale.
This shocking incident throws the spotlight on the urgent need for better sanitation in public markets to protect consumer safety and to prevent recurrence of such unhealthy practices in the future.
