A video has surfaced online showing a man, identified as Manu Abhishek Bhardwaj, who claims to be a part-time Supreme Court lawyer, being slapped by his live-in partner. The video was reportedly shared by Bhardwaj himself on his Instagram account, after which it went viral, leading to widespread discussions across social media platforms. Internet users expressed outrage, criticising the woman for her actions.

The video depicts an argument between the couple, which escalates when Bhardwaj allegedly asks his partner to hit him. The woman complies, slapping him across the face. Following this, Bhardwaj shared the video publicly, revealing the identity of the woman involved. However, as the video quickly gained traction, Bhardwaj urged social media users not to blow the matter out of proportion.

Backlash on social media

After the video went viral, Bhardwaj removed it from his Instagram account. In an Instagram story, he addressed the situation, stating, “It has come to my knowledge that the video posted by me has been downloaded and reposted by meme pages and Twitter. I condemn the misuse of the video to build a specific narrative by pages with vested interests.” He added that although he anticipated such misuse, he initially had no other option but to post the video.

Further appeals

In response to the widespread circulation of the footage, Bhardwaj posted another video, requesting people not to escalate the situation. Reports suggest that he has since deleted all videos involving his partner. On his social media profile, Bhardwaj describes himself as a part-time Supreme Court lawyer and a full-time comedian. Despite his attempts to de-escalate the matter, the video continues to be shared widely across platforms, with some users commenting, "No one is immune."

Social media reactions

One particular account on X (formerly Twitter), '@NCMIndiaa,' shared the video, accusing Bhardwaj of hypocrisy, stating, “Meet Male Feminist and so-called Supreme Court Lawyer Manu Abhishek Bhardwaj... Now he is blaming others for blowing this out of proportion.” The account criticised Bhardwaj for disclosing the woman’s identity while later deleting the video.
