Andhra Pradesh: In a shocking incident reported by mrdia sources, a 35-year-old immigrant worker from Kuwait, identified as Anjaneya Prasad, has been accused of murdering his 59-year-old relative, P Anjaneyulu. This violent act was allegedly motivated by Prasad's belief that Anjaneyulu had sexually abused his minor daughter. Rajampet sub-divisional police officer N. Sudhakar detailed the grim circumstances surrounding the case, stating, 'Anjaneya Prasad arrived from Kuwait recently and beat his physically challenged relative to death with an iron rod' due to the alleged abuse of his daughter.
The tragic event occurred in the early hours of December 7, 2024, at Obulavaripalli in Annamayya district. Sudhakar recounted that Prasad had returned to India just days prior and committed the act while Anjaneyulu was sleeping outside his home. The police official explained, 'Anjaneya Prasad came to India in the first week of December and killed Anjaneyulu in the intervening night of December 6 and 7.'
Following the murder, Prasad reportedly fled back to Kuwait and released a video confession on social media, where he admitted to the crime. In this video, he expressed his frustration over what he perceived as police inaction regarding his daughter’s complaint. Sudhakar noted that Prasad claimed the authorities had failed to respond adequately to his daughter's allegations of abuse.
In light of these developments, local police have initiated a murder case against Prasad and are actively pursuing his arrest. The situation raises serious questions about the effectiveness of law enforcement in addressing allegations of child abuse, as highlighted by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data from 2022. This report revealed a staggering 1,62,449 recorded cases of crimes against minors in India, marking an 8.7% increase from previous years. Alarmingly, 39.7% of these cases fell under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.
This incident not only underscores a deeply personal tragedy but also reflects a broader societal issue regarding child safety in India. With rising statistics on child abuse and inadequate responses from authorities, families like Prasad's are left feeling desperate and vulnerable. The public outcry following such incidents emphasizes the urgent need for systemic reforms to protect children and ensure that justice is served swiftly and effectively.
This harrowing case serves as a stark reminder of the lengths to which a parent may go when they feel their child's safety is at stake. As authorities continue their investigation into both the murder and the alleged abuse, communities are left grappling with the implications of this tragedy on their perceptions of justice and protection for children.
