Farmers' Protest: Trains across the country will face blockades from 12 pm to 4 pm on February 18 as part of the farmers' 'chakka jam' protest. Simultaneously, the fourth round of talks between Union Ministers and farmer organizations is scheduled for 6 pm. Additionally, a mahapanchayat will convene in Haryana.
Farmers from Punjab remain resolute at the Shambhu border, insisting on marching towards Delhi until their demands are addressed. Jagjit Singh Dalewal, representing the farmers, asserted that they would continue protesting if positive outcomes aren't achieved by Sunday. Farmer leaders emphasize peaceful protests without resorting to violence.
The fourth round of talks between Union Ministers and farmer organizations is slated for 6 pm on Sunday at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration in Chandigarh. Key issues on the agenda include MSP guarantee, farmers' loan waivers, and Swaminathan Commission report implementation. Union Ministers Nityanand Rai, Arjun Munda, and Piyush Goyal will engage in discussions alongside leaders of farmer labor organizations.
A 'mahapanchayat' is planned in Haryana on February 18 under the leadership of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Chadhuni) to strategize future actions. This gathering will bring together representatives from various farmer-labor organizations and Khap Panchayats. Meanwhile, mobile internet services remain suspended in seven Haryana districts until February 19.
The United Kisan Morcha in Punjab and Haryana has called for a nationwide train blockade from noon to 4 pm on February 18. Protest activities organized by Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) outside the residences of BJP leaders Sunil Jakhar and Captain Amarinder Singh will persist. BKU (Ugrahan) has declared tolls in Punjab free for two days.
Sarwan Singh Pandher, convenor of Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, proposed ensuring MSP through an ordinance followed by parliamentary legislation. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has engaged in previous meetings between farmers and Union ministers. At Sunil Jakhar's residence in Abohar, Punjab, farmers have established 'langars' and tents for a two-day dharna.
In solidarity with Shambhu border farmers, the movement of vehicles at Dheri Jatt Toll Plaza in Patiala is permitted. Tractor marches led by BKU (Charuni) are ongoing in Haryana's tehsils, contributing to the collective voice of farmers' demands. As negotiations and protests continue, stakeholders remain engaged in the pursuit of equitable resolutions.
