Farmers' Protest: A group of farmers affiliated with BKU (Ugranhan) organized a day-long sit-in protest around the residences of Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar and two other prominent leaders, Capt Amarinder Singh and Kewal Dhillon. The protest aimed to show support for the farmers protesting at the Haryana borders.
BKU (Ugranhan) stands as the largest and most well-organized farmers' union in Punjab.
The protest, termed as a "gherao," targeted the residences of BJP leaders, including Jakhar's house in Panjkosi village, Fazilka district, Capt Amarinder Singh's residence at New Moti Bagh Palace in Patiala, and Dhillon's house in Barnala. The demonstration was scheduled to continue into Sunday, as stated by leaders of BKU (Ugranhan).
However, none of the top BJP leaders were present at home during the sit-ins, as they were reported to be in Delhi for the party’s national council meeting until February 18.
The farmers participating in the "dharna" emphasized that their protest also addressed the unjust "police action" on Punjab farmers by the Haryana police at Shambhu and Khanauri borders. Several farmers sustained serious injuries due to cane-charges, plastic bullets, and teargas shells fired by the Haryana police.
In Haryana, farmers associated with BKU (Chaduni) organized tractor rallies across various districts, demonstrating against the actions of the Haryana police and expressing solidarity with fellow farmers. They also conducted demonstrations at several toll plazas in the state on Friday.
