Farmers' Protest: Haryana Police gets tough; to cancel visas and passports of farmers who damaged property

Farmers' Protest: Taking a tough call, the Haryana Police sought the cancellation of passports and visas of individuals allegedly involved in violence during a farmers' protest. The police identified individuals through CCTV and drone footage and plan to request the Ministry of External Affairs and relevant embassies to cancel their travel documents.

According to the officials, the passports and visas of those who damaged public properties during the recent farmers' protest at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders will be canceled. The Ambala Police during a press conference on Wednesday said that they have identified the people who created the ruckus and destroyed the public property and have conveyed the ministry to cancel the same.

The protesting farmers on February 13, allegedly damaged barricades and removed cement and barbed wire fencing with tractors put up by the police to stop them from entering Delhi. The farmers apparently damaged barriers at the Haryana-Punjab border at Sangrur's Moonak also.

In addition to this, the police also said that proceedings to compensate for the loss of government property during the farmers' movement, attachment of property of the agitators and seizure of bank accounts have been initiated.

Notably, the farmers have been protesting against the government and have been demanding the minimum legal guarantee for crops and loan waiver. 

Meanwhile, the Punjab Police has registered a case against the unknown people for the death of 21-year-old Shubhkaran Singh, who lost his life during the protest. Expressing his condolence, the chief minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann has announced the ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore to Singh’s family and government job to his sister.
