Farmers’ Protest: Bhagwant Mann announces Rs 1 crore compensation for Shubhkaran’s family

Punjab chief minister announced Rs 1 crore of compensation and government job to the sister of farmer who died in the protest.

The chief minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann on Friday announced the compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family of farmer who died during the protest at Khanauri, the Punjab-Haryana border. CM Mann also offered government job to Shubhkaran Singh’s sister. Singh, 21-year-old was native of Bathinda and was killed during the clashes on Wednesday. According to the sources, he died while heading towards the barricades. 

Mann also asserted the legal action against the culprits. Taking it to his X handle, he mentioned, “Financial assistance of Rs 1 crore will be given by the Punjab Government to the family of Shubhakaran Singh, who was martyred during the farmers' protest at Khanauri border, and his younger sister will be given a government job. Appropriate legal action will be taken against the culprits.. They are performing their duty.”

Meanwhile, the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has issued a plea for inclusive conversation from stakeholders across the agriculture industry in response to the ongoing unrest by farmers.

Since the beginning of the protest, the farmers have been camped out along the border with Shambhu border, close to Ambala. Fights broke out during the march on February 13, injuring a number of farmers and the police officers.
