Farmer Leader Dallewal Breaks 131-Day Hunger Strike with Water

After an extraordinary 131 days without food, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal finally broke his hunger strike on March 28, 2025, taking his first sip of water in a moment that marked both resilience and resolution. Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who was on a fast unto death for the last 4 months, has consumed water. With this, he ended his fast that was going on for the last 4 months and 11 days. The court had also ordered to end his fast and a team was also formed to persuade him. The Punjab government gave this information in the Supreme Court on Friday. Jagjit Singh Dallewal consumed water this morning. AG Gurminder Singh, on behalf of the Punjab government, told the bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice N.K. Singh that the farmers have been removed from Khanauri and Shambhu border. Along with this, all those highways and roads have been opened, which were blocked due to the farmers' protest.

Farmer Leader Dallewal ends fast

Not only this, the bench also praised Dallewal. The judges said that Jagjit Singh Dallewal is a good farmer leader and he has no political agenda. The bench said that we know that some people do not want to solve the issues of the farmers. We are not sitting here just like that. We are aware of the whole situation. Along with this, the court ordered the three-member committee headed by a former High Court judge to submit a status report. The committee should tell what progress has been made so far regarding the demands of the farmers. The bench also ended the contempt proceedings against the DGP and Chief Secretary of the Punjab government.

Punjab government officials also got relief from SC

This action was initiated for not complying with the order to provide medical facilities to Jagjit Singh Dallewal. Let us tell you that on March 19, a meeting of farmers was held with the representatives of the Central Government and the people of the Punjab Government. After coming out of this meeting, many farmer leaders were taken into custody. After this, the force was sent to Khanauri and Shambhu border and the farmers protesting there were removed. In this way, after more than a year, the Punjab government was successful in removing the farmers. After the farmers moved away from the protest sites, the barricading from Haryana was also removed and now the movement of people has become easy.
