New Delhi: A disturbing case of neglect and lack of resources has come to light in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh. A middle-aged man, identified as Samant alias Batai alias Beti (50), has been chained to a tree in village Kanja Chitawat for the past 10 years.

Years of suffering

Villagers claim that Batai suffers from mental illness and has a history of throwing stones at people, causing injuries and requiring hospitalization. Due to the fear of his unpredictable behavior and the family's inability to afford proper care, they resorted to chaining him under a tree, exposed to the elements.

Family takes desperate measures

Despite providing him with food and water, the family's actions raise serious concerns about the lack of access to mental health services and the desperate measures taken by families in such situations.

Calls for help

Villagers and concerned individuals are urging the government and authorities to intervene and provide Batai with proper medical attention and care. This incident highlights the need for better mental health infrastructure and support systems in rural areas.
