A dreadful incident unfolded in Aremallapur village of Ranebennur district, Karnataka, as a 50-year-old woman became the victim of a brutal assault. She was tied to an electric pole and subjected to physical violence by a group of women. The distressing episode took place on April 30, within the jurisdiction of the Ranebennur Rural Police station, leading to the arrest of six individuals, including three women.
The assault stemmed from a longstanding dispute involving the woman's son, Manjunath, who belonged to the Kuruba community, and a girl from the Maratha community within the same village. Despite being in a relationship for two years, tensions escalated when the girl's family opposed their association. Manjunath's decision to elope with the girl further exacerbated the situation, prompting retaliation from the girl's family members.
In a disturbing turn of events, members of the girl's family resorted to violence against Manjunath's mother, Hanumavva Medleri. They forcibly dragged her onto the streets, where she was bound to an electric pole, and assaulted her. The barbaric act, witnessed by local villagers, was condemned by the community.
