Exit Poll Results 2024 Haryana Jammu Kashmir: As the voting process draws to a close, the much-anticipated exit poll results for Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir are set to be released shortly. These elections hold significant weight for both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, especially in Haryana where a fierce bipolar contest has unfolded.

Haryana: BJP aims for third term, Congress eyes comeback

The state of Haryana saw a voter turnout of 61% by 5 PM today. The BJP, which is vying to form the state government for a third consecutive time, faces a crucial test in this election. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the party managed to win only five out of ten parliamentary seats in Haryana, a sharp drop compared to its sweep in the previous election cycle. The upcoming exit polls will give a glimpse of whether the BJP has managed to regain the trust of voters or if the Congress is poised to make a strong comeback.

For Congress, these elections present an opportunity to bounce back in Haryana after a tough battle in 2019. In the previous Assembly elections, the BJP secured 40 of the 90 seats, while Congress won 31, and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) claimed 10. With the support of the JJP, the BJP formed a government, appointing Dushyant Chautala as deputy chief minister. However, the alliance later dissolved, and the BJP replaced Manohar Lal Khattar with Nayab Singh Saini as Chief Minister in March.

Jammu & Kashmir: First Assembly elections as a Union Territory

Jammu & Kashmir also voted today in its first Assembly elections since becoming a Union Territory and after the abrogation of Article 370, which granted the region special status. The elections, spread across 90 constituencies, have seen statehood as a key issue, with both the BJP and the Congress promising its restoration. Notably, PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have also made statehood restoration a focal point in their campaigns.

The National Conference, led by Farooq Abdullah, has allied with the Congress in these elections, while other significant players include Mehbooba Mufti's Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdul Ghani Lone's People's Conference, Ghulam Nabi Azad's Democratic Progressive Azad Party, and Altaf Bukhari's Apni Party. An interesting twist in the elections is the involvement of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami, which reportedly backed certain candidates, forming a strategic alliance with Engineer Rashid's Awami Ittehad Party.

Counting and final results to be announced on October 8

The counting of votes is scheduled for October 8, and the results are expected to significantly impact the political landscape of both Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir. As the exit polls are revealed, all eyes will be on the trends that emerge, offering a first glimpse into what the final outcome might look like.
