Former police officer Sachin Waze, who is charged with the death of businessman Mansukh Hiran and the Antilia bomb scare, has requested permission from the court to use a laptop while incarcerated in order to write a book and prepare for his defense.

Waze stated in the handwritten appeal submitted to a special court that he is a writer of several books in both Marathi and English, and that a well-known English author had translated his book on the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks from Marathi into English.

Waze in his plea said that he is composing a dissertation on while his current confinement and working on publishing the expanded edition of his book.

He stated that it would be difficult to do the research for the planned treatise without having access to electronic copies of court rulings and having to type large documents without the use of software like Microsoft Office.
The jail administration, however, rejected his plea due to worries about prison security.

The letter stated that although the applicant has carried out his responsibilities as an officer in the police administration, he is currently facing significant allegations of illegal activity.

The jail administration stated that other accused people might submit similar petitions if he is permitted to own a computer.

The jail authorities informed the court that there is a strong likelihood that the computer will be misused for anti-administration and anti-national actions. However, the authorities have said that after taking state government’s permission, failing which prison authorities may land in trouble.
