A new controversy has erupted in the aftermath of the horrific rape and murder of a 31-year-old doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Bengal BJP chief, Sukanta Mazumdar, made explosive claims, alleging that Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the institution, had ordered renovations near the seminar hall where the crime took place. Mazumdar suggested that the renovation was a deliberate attempt to destroy crucial evidence.

The young doctor was found brutally raped and murdered in the seminar hall of the hospital, sparking widespread outrage and protests from healthcare professionals across the country, who raised serious concerns over workplace safety. A civic volunteer attached to the Kolkata Police, Sanjay Roy, has been arrested in connection with the crime.

Apart from this, in the sequence of interrogations, Dr Sandip Ghosh, former Principal of the college resigned from his post amidst mounting public outrage. However, Ghosh’s involvement in the case deepened when he was arrested by the CBI for alleged financial irregularities at the hospital.

Letter written by Ghosh surfaced

A letter written by Ghosh, dated August 10, surfaced, requesting urgent renovation of on-duty doctors' rooms and toilets near the seminar hall. BJP leader Amit Malviya shared this letter on his social media handle, calling it "explosive" and a key piece of evidence in exposing an alleged cover-up.

Malviya stated, “This letter proves that renovation near the crime scene started the day after the young doctor was raped and murdered on the night of August 8-9. Claims that construction began before the crime are an outright lie.”

The BJP leader further accused the West Bengal government, the Kolkata Police, and hospital administration of collaborating to destroy evidence. Malviya claimed that the viral video of the broken wall in the hospital was part of a larger conspiracy to cover up the truth. “Kolkata Police even filed complaints against those who shared the video,” he added.

In a scathing attack, Malviya called for the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, arguing that a free and fair investigation could not be conducted while they remain in office. He also demanded that their call records from the 72 hours following the crime be made public and that both Banerjee and Goyal undergo a polygraph test to unearth the truth.

“This movement for justice will continue,” Malviya vowed, reiterating that justice for the young doctor can only be achieved through a transparent investigation.
