Karnataka News: In a shocking incident that has sent ripples of outrage through the Indian community, Atul Subhash, a 34-year-old techie from Bengaluru, took his own life amid an ongoing family court battle fraught with allegations of harassment and extortion. His suicide note, a harrowing 24-page document, detailed the immense pressure he faced from his wife, Nikita Singhania, and her family, who he accused of demanding exorbitant sums of money in the name of maintenance and legal fees.
Subhash's note starkly revealed his despair, stating, 'I choose to commit suicide today that seems to be the best option. This will satisfy my wife and mother-in-law while stopping the funds to wage war on my family and me.' He alleged that his wife had filed multiple cases against him, including serious charges like murder and dowry harassment, which he claimed were fabricated to extract money from him.
Despite being a working professional earning a substantial income, Nikita reportedly demanded ₹2 lakh per month for maintenance for herself and their young son, further exacerbating Subhash's financial strain.

The circumstances surrounding Subhash's death are deeply troubling. His brother, Bikas Kumar, filed a complaint leading to an FIR against Nikita Singhania and her family under charges of abetment to suicide. The complaint alleges that Nikita's family pressured Subhash for ₹3 crore to withdraw their legal cases against him and even demanded ₹30 lakh for visitation rights to see his son.
In his note, Subhash described how these relentless demands had turned his life into a nightmare, stating that he had not seen or spoken to his child in three years despite numerous court applications.
Bikas Kumar expressed his frustration over the perceived bias in the legal system, asserting that 'every law in India is for women, and not for men.' He lamented how his brother was subjected to mockery by his in-laws during court hearings, with taunts suggesting he should end his life if he could not meet their financial demands. This toxic environment ultimately led Subhash to feel that suicide was his only escape.
The tragic death of Atul Subhash has ignited widespread outrage on social media platforms, with many calling out the Indian justice system for its apparent failures. Critics argue that such incidents highlight systemic issues within family courts that often leave men vulnerable to exploitation by false allegations. As investigations continue into this heartbreaking case, many are left questioning how such tragedies can be prevented in the future
