Union Minister and BJP leader Shantanu Thakur, on April 8, stated that he had been sent a letter by the terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), threatening dire consequences if the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is implemented in West Bengal.
The purpoted letter, typed in Bengali, also threatened to raze the 'Thakurbari', a pilgrimage of the Matua community, in case Muslims were tortured following the implementation of the NRC.
Shantanu claimed that the letter was sent to him by post at around 2 pm on Monday afternoon. The letter has been written in Bengali language. The letter was sent by two persons named Nazrul Islam Sahib Ali and Fajer Ali. Both of them have declared themselves to be members of Lashkar-e-Taiba. The threatening letter has been sent from Hadipur village of Dedanga in North 24 Parganas.
The Union Minister himself made public the threatening letter sent to him in the name of a terrorist organization. According to the letter, the threatening letter has been sent from Hadipur village of Deganga in North 24 Parganas. The letter has been sent by two persons named Nazrul Islam Sahib Ali and Fajr Ali.
Thakur also expressed his intention to inquire if West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, who holds the position of the state's home minister, possessed any awareness regarding the letter purportedly sent by the LeT.
On the other hand, rejecting Shantanu's allegations, Trinamool's Rajya Sabha member Mamatabala Thakur hit back and said that I think Shantanu himself has sent this letter through his people. I think this letter should be investigated.
When reached out, Bongaon Police District SP Dinesh Kumar said they have not yet received any formal complaint from the minister.
