Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid who is known for his outspoken views is all set to take oath as Member of Parliament on July 5. Engineer Rashid defeated former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah with over 2 lakh votes in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Grant of paroleThe Delhi court of Additional Sessions Judge Chander Singh granted parole for two hours to a jailed Kashmiri leader to take oath in the Parliament. Restrictions by the courtRashid was also subject to restrictions by Court of Additional Sessions Judge Chander Singh, including being unable to use his phone, the internet, or communicate with the media. The Court granted his family members permission to attend but prohibited taking pictures of the oath-taking ceremony or sharing any of them on social media.Meanwhile, it is important to note that this has come a day after Rashid was given permission by the National Investigation Agency to take oath as a Member of Parliament on July 5.Though NIA has not restricted Rashids oath but has allowed it with certain restrictions, which include not speaking in media. Apart from this, the counsel has been directed to complete the oath formalities and undertake all other activities within a day.Why Engineer Rashid is serving jailEngineer Rashid has been serving jail since 2017 in connection with a terror funding case. He has recently won the Lok Sabha elections as an independent candidate from Baramulla constituency as an independent candidate. He has defeated the prominent leader of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdulla with almost 2 lakh votes.
