Republic Day 2024: French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to arrive in Jaipur on Thursday for a two-day state visit as chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations.
His trip marks a major milestone as India and France commemorate 25 years of their strategic partnership.
Macron's packed itinerary begins in Jaipur today. He will start at the historic Amer Fort, where a cultural program is planned. The French President will then head to the Jantar Mantar observatory to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The two leaders will take a joint roadshow through the Pink City, making stops at Hawa Mahal and a handicraft shop. They will also visit the Albert Hall Museum before a private dinner at Rambagh Palace hosted by PM Modi.
The sites hold significance for Indo-French ties. Jantar Mantar is home to the world's largest stone sundial, built in 1734 when French Jesuit astronomers were invited by Jaipur's founder Sawai Jai Singh. Macron's visit honors shared scientific history.
In Delhi on January 26, Macron will attend the Republic Day parade as chief guest. A French Army contingent will participate in the parade at Kartavya Path. He will be the 6th French leader and 5th President accorded this honor since 1976.
After the parade, Macron will interact with officials at the French Embassy. In the evening, he will attend the 'At Home' function at Rashtrapati Bhavan followed by a state banquet dinner hosted by the President of India.
Macron's trip caps 25 years of the India-France strategic partnership. The visit is likely to see major announcements in defense, clean energy, trade, investment, and technology.
He arrives with a high-level delegation of ministers, CEOs, and cultural icons. This underscores the multi-dimensional cooperation between the two countries.
India and France aim to jointly develop advanced defense technologies, including for export to third countries. They have steadily boosted strategic ties across domains like space, civil nuclear, counterterrorism, and maritime security.
In July 2022, PM Modi was the chief guest for Bastille Day in Paris. Macron's Republic Day invite reciprocates the symbolic gesture. It demonstrates the Action-Oriented partnership between India and France.
With shared values of liberty, equality, and fraternity, the two nations are strengthening their diplomatic, economic, and cultural bonds. Macron's visit will further energize bilateral ties ahead of India's G20 presidency.
