Eminent poet Ramakanta Rath passes away at 90 (x/@manasrmangaraj)
The revered 90-year-old person became known throughout his life for his works in literature and his time in administrative positions. Padma Bhushan awardee Ramakanta Rath died with three daughters and a son to survive him.
Several important Indian figures including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed their condolences after his passing which created a substantial gap within literary and administrative fields. The Chief Minister of Odisha Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep sorrow while honoring Rath both as a celebrated writer in Indian literature and as an IAS officer. The inspiration Rath provided to others led Majhi to describe him as such while affirming that his literary creations will endure across multiple generations. His state funeral at Puri Swargadwar will take place on Monday under official ceremonies after his son returns from abroad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his tribute by describing the late administrator as effective while recognizing his poetic talent. People from every generation responded emotionally to his poetic works. Saddened by his passing. I hold my thoughts toward his family members and persons who respect him. The writer Ramakanta Rath was born on December 13, 1934 in Cuttack before obtaining his Master’s degree in English Literature from Ravenshaw College. After his admission into the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1957 he worked through significant positions to finally achieve Chief Secretary of Odisha in 1992. Ramakanta Rath established his permanent legacy through poetry rather than his distinguished administrative track record though he accumulated many accolades in his administrative career.
Poet Bireshwar Rath is well-known for creating several recognized masterpieces such as "Kete Dinara," "Aneka Kothari," "Sandigdha Mrugaya," "Saptama Rutu," "Sachitra Andhara," "Sri Radha" and "Sreshtha Kavita." His poetry has gained international recognition because it appeared in numerous linguistic versions beyond the boundaries of Odia literary traditions.
