New Delhi: A horrific incident at an elephant sanctuary in southern India has left one man dead. In a now-viral video, a caretaker is seen being attacked by an elephant, resulting in his tragic demise.
The incident occurred on Thursday, June 20th, at the "Kerala Farm" elephant sanctuary located in Idukki district, Kerala. Local reports suggest the attack unfolded after the caretaker, identified as 62-year-old Balakrishnan, struck the elephant with a cane. This action appears to have triggered a violent reaction from the animal.
The disturbing video circulating online shows the initial attack, followed by the elephant trampling Balakrishnan. The victim is seen struggling to rise before succumbing to his injuries.
Following the tragedy, Balakrishnan's body underwent a legal autopsy before being handed over to authorities. Furthermore, an investigation has been launched into the "Kerala Farm" sanctuary. According to reports, the sanctuary failed to register the elephants with the Animal Welfare Board of India, a mandatory requirement for using elephants in entertainment or tourist activities. This oversight has raised concerns about the sanctuary's adherence to animal welfare protocols.
