New Delhi: In a distressing incident on the Pashan-Baner Link Road in Pune, a woman riding a scooter with her two children was violently assaulted by an elderly man driving a car. The assailant, identified as Swapnil Kekre, allegedly attacked the woman, Jerlyn D'Silva, after a confrontation stemming from a road dispute.
Jerlyn D'Silva, a digital content creator, recounted the harrowing experience in a video posted online, where she described how the man had been aggressively tailing her scooter for nearly 2 kilometers. Despite sticking to the left side of the road to avoid impeding the car's progress, Kekre overtook her and abruptly stopped, blocking her path. He then proceeded to exit his vehicle in a fit of rage, physically assaulting Jerlyn by punching her face, pulling her hair, and causing significant bleeding from her nose.
According to Ms. D'Silva's uncle, Vishal, who arrived at the scene after being informed by Jerlyn, the attack was unprovoked. He reported that despite no physical contact between the scooter and the car, Kekre launched into the assault, disregarding the presence of Jerlyn's terrified children who witnessed the ordeal. A concerned bystander assisted Jerlyn to a nearby hospital, where she received medical attention for her injuries.
Authorities from the Chaturshringi Police Station swiftly registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Swapnil Kekre in response to the incident. Both Kekre and his wife, who was reportedly present during the assault, were taken into custody for further investigation. The police are probing the incident to ascertain the full extent of the assault and any potential motives behind Kekre's actions.
The assault on Jerlyn D'Silva adds to a series of recent troubling incidents in Pune involving reckless behavior and violence on the roads. Just two months ago, a fatal accident involving an allegedly drunk 17-year-old driving a Porsche resulted in the deaths of two individuals. More recently, a speeding SUV driven by a 25-year-old, reportedly intoxicated and the son of a politician, collided with a poultry truck, leaving its occupants seriously injured.
