On Sunday, eight children were feared dead, and several others were injured following the collapse of a temple wall in Shahpur, located in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district. The wall, part of the 50-year-old Hardayal temple, gave way amid heavy rainfall. At the time of the collapse, worshippers were engaged in making earthen shivlings as part of the Sawan festivities.
Emergency responders, including a bulldozer, have been deployed to search for survivors at the site. Visuals from the scene depict ongoing rescue operations, but further details are still awaited.
This incident follows a similar tragedy that occurred a day earlier in Rewa district. Four children lost their lives when a wall of an abandoned building collapsed as they were returning home from school. The building’s owners have been arrested, and a case has been filed against them under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has expressed profound grief over the incidents. In response, he announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to each family affected by the tragedy.
