Today marks the commencement of the 75th anniversary of the parliament, which is part of a special five-day session. Eight bills are listed for this current ongoing session. The sitting will shift to the new parliament building on Tuesday after a function in the central hall of the current building.Here are the highlights on special parliament session:Opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc convened at the office of Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, at 10 am to strategize for the special five-day parliament session commencing at 11 am today.Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the special parliament session, starting today, may be brief but momentous. He anticipates historic decisions during this session and commended the success of the Chandrayaan-3 mission.The Prime Minister recounted the inspirational moments associated with the current Parliament building before its relocation. He acknowledged the foreign rulers decision to construct the building but highlighted the significant contributions of the Indian people. PM Modi congratulated the scientists on the successful Chandrayaan-3 launch and stressed Indias role in the G20 Summit.Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla acknowledged PM Modis vision and guidance leading to consensus in the New Delhi Declaration issued by G20 leaders. He praised Indias role as a voice of peace and restraint globally. Birla also noted the shift of parliamentary proceedings to the new building from September 19.Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury expressed sentiments about leaving the old Parliament building. He remembered Pandit Nehrus dedication to parliamentary democracy and his willingness to engage with the Opposition. The Speakers bell even rang for Nehru when he exceeded his speaking time.Mallikarjun Kharge highlighted Nehrus belief in the importance of a strong Opposition within the system. He criticized attempts to weaken the Opposition through agencies like the ED and CBI. Kharge described the political landscape as an attempt to “wash” opposing voices and make them “permanent” in one party.Pramod Tiwari, the leader of the Congress, lashed out at the Center, calling it a “confused government” that shared the agenda for the Special Session of the Parliament. On Sunday, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Joshi appealed to all parties for active support and cooperation in order to ensure the efficient operation of the two Houses of Parliament. Several ministers and 51 leaders from 34 parties attended the meeting of all the floor leaders of political parties in the parliament.
