Eid Off Denied: Bank Employees Gear Up for March 31 Deadline

Bank employees across India hoping to celebrate Eid with a day off have been dealt a tough blow as the Reserve Bank of India has scrapped the holiday, citing the critical March 31 financial year-end deadline. With Eid-ul-Fitr expected to fall around late March 2025, staff are now bracing for a high-pressure workday, juggling festive spirits with the demands of closing out the fiscal books.

The festival of Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the country on March 31. In such a situation, there are holidays in all the government offices of the country. But, RBI has canceled the leave of bank employees. March 31 is the last day of the financial year 2024-25, so RBI has canceled the leave of bank employees. The bank has made this announcement to properly manage the process of financial transactions on the last day of the financial year.

It is the last day of the financial year. In such a situation, RBI has decided to open banks to balance the financial transactions. Earlier, banks were to be opened only in Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh, but later RBI has decided to open banks all over the country.

Not all work will be done

Banks will remain open on Eid on 31st March, but all types of work will not be done in banks on that day. Some fixed transactions will be done. For example, on 31st March, payments related to income tax, custom duty, excise duty and GST will be done. Only payments related to distribution of pension and government allowances will be done.

Digital payments will continue

Banks will remain closed on Eid. Only a few works can be done by visiting banks. But, you need not worry. Because mobile banking facilities, online fund transfer and government tax payment services will continue. You will not need to go to the branch for these works.

Banks will remain closed on 1 April as well

March 31 is the last day of the financial year. Banks will be open due to closing day. But on the next day, i.e. on April 1, work will be closed everywhere except in some states of the country. Banks will remain open in Himalayan states, Mizoram, West Bengal and Meghalaya. They will remain closed in other places.
