New Delhi: Ramchandra, a councillor from Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has accused several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders of kidnapping him today. The incident has heightened political tensions between the two major parties in the capital.

Allegations of forced abduction

Ramchandra, who had defected from AAP to BJP last Sunday, reversed his decision four days later and returned to AAP. Upon his return, he claimed that a group of five or six BJP members forcibly took him from his home. "In the morning, five or six people came to my house, took me to the BJP office in a car. There they threatened me with CBI and ED. My leaders called the police commissioner and they got me released," he told reporters. Emphasizing his loyalty to AAP, Ramchandra added, "I am not scared of CBI and ED. I am a true soldier of Arvind Kejriwal."

BJP's denial of involvement

Praveen Shankar Kapoor, BJP’s media in-charge, vehemently denied the allegations, labeling them as "fake sensationalism." "Councillor Ramchandra is not in your party. We have nothing to do with it, but it is certain that he is sitting in his house and you people are spreading rumours," Kapoor stated on X, formerly Twitter.

Manish Sisodia, a senior AAP leader, supported Ramchandra’s claims on social media, stating, "BJP threatened councillor Ramchandra ji with ED and CBI. When he did not get scared, BJP goons picked him up in a car and took him away." In an urgent press conference, AAP demanded a thorough investigation into the matter. "I am searching for him on the road, his phone is switched off," AAP leader Dilip Pandey said. "Shahbad Dairy police station SHO has been talked to, who says that no such kidnapping case has been registered in his police station," he added.

Public and social media reaction

The allegations have sparked a heated debate on social media, with AAP supporters calling for accountability and BJP supporters dismissing the claims as baseless. The local authorities have initiated an investigation to verify the authenticity of Ramchandra’s statements. As the investigation progresses, both parties remain firm in their stances. AAP continues to press for justice for Ramchandra, while BJP maintains its innocence, asserting that the councillor is fabricating the story to gain sympathy.
