External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar inaugurates the IT centre at Namibia University built with Indian assistance. The centre will be known as the India Namibia Centre of Excellence in Information Technology (INCEIT), which is a collaborative effort output between both countries.
Union Minister S Jaishankar expressed his gratitude through the social media handle, which said, “Delighted to participate in the inauguration of India-Namibia Centre of Excellence in Information Technology (INCEIT) in Windhoek. Thank DPM and FM Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and Minister of Higher Education Itah Kandjii-Murangi for joining. This Centre is a notable contribution to our partnering with Digital Africa. It is in line with Namibian priorities and will contribute to research, innovation cyber security and good governance. Confident that Namibia’s youth will also use it as a platform to demonstrate their talent and creativity. The PARAM Super Computer installed here, aptly named ARUB (Cheetah), is an affirmation of the time-tested India-Namibia partnership.”

The INCEIT, according to EAM Jaishankar, highlights the long-standing friendship and ties between India and Namibia on the occasion of its inauguration.
According to EAM, this centre began giving courses in November 2019 after receiving course materials, reference books, and a significant amount of IT gear and software from the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC).
Apart from this, the Centre will be equipped with a CDAC PARAM Supercomputer with High-Performance Computing (HPC) Applications. Additionally, the centre will be offering courses to train more than 275 professionals, government officials, students, teachers and researchers.
Jaishankar while addressing the meet, also appreciated the students who won a reward in a cybersecurity competition. “I’m happy to note that a student from this very centre has won a trophy with the first position at the 6th Namibia National Cybersecurity Competition,” Jaishankar said.
Notably, the agreement for the establishment of the India Namibia Centre of Excellence in Information Technology (INCEIT) at the Namibia University of Science & Technology was signed on July 16, 2018, by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC).
In order to accomplish this, the two nations signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the goal of promoting Namibia’s ICT education internationally.
