In an unconventional turn of events, a woman in Durgapur celebrated her nuptials in a hospital ward, where she was admitted just days before her scheduled wedding. The unique ceremony unfolded after the bride, Sucharita Patra, found herself hospitalized due to a stomach ache, but her family remained determined to proceed with the long-awaited celebration.

Patra, a microbiologist employed by a Delhi-based firm, and her husband, Amit Mukherjee, an engineer working in Noida, had set the date for their wedding two years ago. With most family members already gathered at the wedding destination in Durgapur, rescheduling was not an option for the families.

According to reports, Sucharita was admitted to the hospital after experiencing stomach pain while preparing for the wedding at home. "She was admitted, and the next day, she was diagnosed with viral hepatitis. Doctors said it's not chronic, but she needed hospitalization," a family member revealed.

Initially, the bride's family inquired with the hospital about the possibility of temporarily taking Sucharita to the wedding venue for an hour to complete the rituals, as reported by the Times of India. However, the authorities at Life Care Hospital in Durgapur offered an alternative solution – allowing the couple to exchange garlands and vows within the hospital ward itself.

Hospital CEO Satadal Dutta granted permission for the families to hold the ceremony inside the ward, with only ten family members and a priest permitted to attend, in addition to the bride and groom.

"This is something we have allowed for the first time in our hospital," remarked Shilpa Sar, the senior operations manager of the hospital, highlighting the exceptional nature of the event.

The heartwarming ceremony not only celebrated the union of the couple but also showcased the adaptability and determination of their families in the face of unexpected circumstances, turning a hospital ward into a cherished memory for all involved.
