New Delhi: In a significant disciplinary action, Kripa Shankar Kanaujia, formerly a DSP in Bighapur, Uttar Pradesh, has been demoted to the rank of constable following a controversial incident at a hotel in Kanpur. Kanaujia, who had gone missing after taking leave in July 2021 under the pretext of family reasons, was found in a compromising situation with a female police officer at a hotel in Kanpur.
The incident came to light when Kanaujia's absence raised concerns, prompting his wife to report him missing to the SP of Unnao. Upon investigation, it was discovered that Kanaujia had not returned home after seeking leave but had instead checked into a hotel in Kanpur. Both his personal and official mobile phones were switched off during this period.
Unnao police, acting on suspicions of his whereabouts, traced Kanaujia to the hotel in Kanpur and gathered evidence, including CCTV footage showing him entering with the female police officer. The matter was escalated to higher authorities, leading to a government inquiry into the incident for bringing disrepute to the police department.
After reviewing the findings, the government recommended Kanaujia's demotion from DSP to constable, a decision endorsed by the ADG Administration. Consequently, Kanaujia has been reassigned to the 6th Battalion PAC in Gorakhpur as a constable.
