New Delhi: In a disturbing incident at Mumbais Sion Hospital, a woman doctor was allegedly assaulted by an intoxicated patient and his relatives. The incident occurred around 3:30 AM, while the doctor was on duty in the ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) department. According to hospital officials, the patient arrived at the hospital with facial injuries and bleeding hands in the early hours of Sunday.Verbal abuse escalates to physical assaultAs the doctor began to treat the patients wounds, what started as a verbal disagreement quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. The doctor was carefully removing the cotton dressing from the patients face to assess his injuries when the patient winced in pain. This led to a heated argument, with the patient accusing the doctor of inadequate treatment. The situation spiraled out of control as the patient, along with his relatives, started abusing and threatening the doctor. The patient arrived at the hospital after midnight in an intoxicated state, accompanied by 7-8 relatives. He had sustained injuries in an earlier assault. When the resident doctor, who was on call in the ENT department, began a routine examination, the patient and his relatives became verbally abusive. Instead of calming the situation, the relatives joined in the abuse, and the verbal attack quickly turned physical, Dr. More explained.Police investigation underwayFollowing the assault, the patient and his relatives fled the scene, leaving the hospital authorities to manage the aftermath. The womans doctor reported the incident to the police at around 7 AM, and a First Information Report (FIR) was promptly filed. The police are actively searching for the suspects.Incident sparks concern amid nationwide protestsThis attack comes at a time of heightened concern among the medical community, following the recent rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata.
