Drunk BDO officer mows down woman with speeding car in Uttarakhand

A high-speed car driven by the Block Development Officer (BDO) struck and killed a woman and two girls who were walking. All three victims died. The accused officer, Devi Prasad, has been arrested. This tragic incident occurred in Bouradi, the district headquarters of New Tehri.

A woman and her two nieces were hit by a speeding car while walking in the Bauradi district headquarters in Uttarakhand. The accident resulted in the woman's immediate death, while the girls succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. Additionally, two other people were struck by the car, sustaining minor injuries.

What did the Police say?

The police have arrested the driver. ASP JR Joshi reported that on Monday evening, Reena Negi (36), a resident of Bauradi, was on an evening walk with her two nieces, Agrima (10) and Anvita (7), along the Municipal Office Road. Around 7 PM, a speeding car driven by DP Chamoli Block (Development Officer, Jakhanidhar) hit them.

The impact killed Reena Negi on the spot, while the girls were critically injured. They were rushed to the district hospital, where doctors declared them dead. A large crowd gathered at the hospital following the incident.

The police confirmed that the driver has been arrested and is being presented in court. The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area. The deceased woman's husband runs a business in Bauradi.

Other incidents in Uttarakhand

Recently, another heartbreaking tragedy occurred in the state when 14 tourists and many others got injured when their vehicle fell into the Alaknanda River. The accident happened in Rudraprayag district en route Rishikesh- Badrinath Highway. The state disaster management force and other senior officials conducted the rescue operations. PM Modi announced to support the families of the dead by giving an amount of Rs 2 lakhs and Rs 50,000 to each of the injured person.
